Mamata govt moves Supreme Court challenging HC's teacher appt cancellation order

• State government challenges Calcutta High Court's ruling on teacher appointment cancellations in Supreme Court
• Files SLP and aims to file an application before CJI or any other bench on Thursday for speedy hearing 
• Legal dispute arises over whether unemployed candidates should undergo new testing or existing evaluations be reassessed
   

The state government takes its battle against the Calcutta HC's order, which led to the cancellation of teacher appointments, to the Supreme Court. The contentious decision by the High Court, nullifying approximately 26,000 jobs, has sparked a fierce legal debate. 

Mamata Banerjee earlier stated HC's verdict declaring teacher recruitment test as 'null and void' is “illegal" and the govt will challenge it in SC. 

On Wednesday, the state government filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, challenging Calcutta High Court's verdict. Additionally, efforts are underway to expedite the legal proceedings, with an application for a speedy hearing expected to be submitted on Thursday. Authorities aim to present the case before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud or an appropriate bench as soon as possible.

The high court, on Monday, ordered cancellation of all appointments made through the recruitment process of the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools. And directed that the new recruitment process should be started within 15 days after the declaration of Lok Sabha election results.
